From the Architects
Larson & Darby Group was commisioned with Perkins+Will and Best Practices to develop a programming effort for the Birth through 8th grade Community Learning Center. A series of workshops were conducted to work with the community, staff, and local leadership to redefine what a school should be. Working alongside the design team were community partners such as the Peoria Public Park District, Peoria Public Library, medical community, and PHA to create a comprehensive community presence to build on the proven success at the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Center Model we designed in 1993. This process resulted in the successful creation of the Master Facilities Guidlines that are currently in use for the initial 2 schools that will be constructed for occupancy in the fall of 2010.
The new Harrison Birth - 8th Grade Community Learning Center has been one of the most researched and studied facility designs to be developed in the United States and we are honored to have been a partner to the process.
We have worked hard with the School District to maintain the vision and conviction to make something great happen.
